La Nina at Las Llamas

A Peruvean town on the Pacific

Eroding sand dunes revealed remains

Dozens of Llamas and hundreds of children

Found in an ancient mud bank

Children brought from south, Llamas from North

Ritually slaughtered, hearts ripped out 600 years ago

Children buried facing west, Llamas facing east.

Yet another generation sacrificed

To propitiate the gods of climate change.

About This:

Victims of a desperate event, more than 140 children and over 200 llamas were part of the sacrificial killing on the north coast of Peru around A.D. 1450.
