Silent Screaming

Ninety million tons of sandstone

Ninety Seconds, Ninety lives.

Daily townsfolk bread are breaking

Gaily future plans they're making

Silently the rock is quaking

Suddenly the earth is shaking.

Solid wall of crumbling mountain

Crushing fall of rocky fountain

Rolling ball of gritty masses

Roaring brawl of grisly gasses

Falling pall of deathly motion

Silent shawl of dusty ocean.

Falling where a watch is keeping

Flooding down a town that's sleeping

Bringing death and living weeping

Snuffing out the hopes and dreamings

Future plans and secret schemings

Leaving fear and silent screaming.

Ninety million tons of sandstone

Ninety Seconds, Ninety lives.

About this: On April 29, 1903, Turtle Mountain, in the southern Canadian Rockies, collapsed onto the town of Frank, Alberta.
