Language is War, Ames, August 2011
So it begins.
The quadrennial war of adjectives
for the prize of defining the ambiguities of now.
Politicians assault the land
with all the poetic conceit
of cavalry generals
wielding lines forged,
hammered, sharpened
in hot rooms by cold men
versed only in technique and style
Earnestly exhorting the people
On memes and tropes
detected in the trench battlegrounds
of blogs, tweets and focus groups.
Imagining only what victory demands
And no more vision than sufficient for the prize.
