October 17, 2018: Long Island Ending

The luminous grasses, and the merry sun

In the grave sky; the sparkle far and wide,

Laughter of unseen children, cheerful chirp

Of crickets, and low lisp of rippling tide,

Light summer clouds fantastical as sleep . . .”

—Emma Lazarus: Long Island Sound

Montauk Point Lighthouse peeks above waves of amber grass at the Eastern end of Long Island.  Beyond which lies only Europe.
